about us

Camberleigh-Hay, (formed in 2009), is a professional practice offering advice and support to private individuals, their business interests and all related structures such as trusts, charities, partnerships; whatever our client's need, we take care of it.

The founding partners have a wealth of tax experience, gained at big five accountancy firms, but more than that, they have created a culture where the individual is appreciated and at the core of everything Camberleigh-Hay does.

"We relish a challenge, thrive on puzzles and fully appreciate the importance of trust and integrity in all of our relationships, with clients, fellow professionals, the Revenue and our staff. We work in partnership with our clients and other professionals, delivering robust and sensible advice alongside an excellent compliance service; we really enjoy what we do at Camberleigh-Hay. We believe that everyone is an individual and should be treated that way; it's truly amazing how much there is to learn and share, not to mention enjoyment to be found in all our relationships."

Amongst tax advisors, Sheena is second to none in offering a personal, bespoke service that leaves each client feeling that he/she is her only one. Of course, he/she is far from that, but Sheena is living proof of the tenet that 'if you want something done, you give it to a busy person'. She is a highly sought after private client professional, and deservedly so. She is not only a talented adviser, but also an incredibly likeable one.

Camberleigh-Hay's business has boomed since day one on the strength of their considerable expertise and experience in delivering advice to high net worth individuals and their UK/offshore trustees and the strength of the relationships they enjoy with them, as well as other chosen professionals with whom they work closely. I am proud to count myself amongst the latter and have done so for the last 9 years.

I am very happy working with Camberleigh-Hay for our mutual clients' benefit, always in a joined up way with the end game of the best result for them. The team at Camberleigh-Hay are bright of mind, but also of personality. Couple with that a clarity of understanding and integrity, Camberleigh-Hay achieves great results for its clients, and accordingly those who work alongside, with flair and not a small amount of fun."

Julia Cox, Private Client Partner Charles Russell.

private tax services

We ensure our clients organise their affairs in the most tax efficient way, whether that be in relation to income tax, inheritance tax or capital gains tax, we make sure that our clients avoid potential pitfalls there for the inexperienced. Everyone is an individual and so, necessarily, are our solutions, we don't use schemes, we don't use jargon and everything we do is transparent; all our planning is tailored for the individual and robust. We have over forty years experience which we use for our client's benefit, covering areas such as:

  • Income tax planning
  • Estate planning
  • Capital gains tax planning
  • The taxation of non UK domicile / UK resident individuals
  • Tax efficient loss planning
  • Domicile and residency

Many transactions an individual undertakes during their lifetime, such as the sale or gift of assets, taking up employment, self-employment, entering or leaving the UK, or even death will have a tax implication. We assist by providing the timely advice our clients need so they can ensure that any resulting liabilities are minimised and are always clearly understood. Every new client has a financial "health check" and can rest assured that we are on hand to help them address all the issues relevant to them and their family.

We pride ourselves on delivering peace of mind, so we start by ensuring that our clients are always on top of their filing responsibilities. We don't make a fuss about staying ahead in an increasingly complex and busy world, we make it happen. We can help with all your filing and other obligations including (although not exhaustively):

  • The preparation of your Self Assessment tax return
  • Advice in respect of tax payments due and payment dates
  • Represent you in communications with HM Revenue and Customs in respect of any enquiries into your tax affairs

There is the ever increasing potential to be liable to penalties and interest associated with non-compliance; adding unnecessary additional pressure and complications to the process. What we do is remove all the stress from the compliance function for our clients, handling their Self Assessment, advising them of payment obligations and acting as their agents with HM Revenue and Customs, dealing with it all on their behalf.

Being in business ourselves, employing and risking our capital, we can empathise with the issues facing our clients. When it's your name above the door, the perspective really is different and our clients benefit from the ownership we take. We recognise that Shareholders and private companies encounter a wide range of taxation issues throughout the life of the business. We can assist in respect of a whole range of tax issues, including:

  • Profit extraction and remuneration planning
  • Employee share incentives
  • Business succession issues
  • Business divisions
  • Private equity issues
  • Transactional tax issues
  • Pre-sale planning prior to exit

Each decision a business makes has a potential tax implication. It is therefore important that a business stays proactive and together with the advisors, ensures that it's affairs are structured in the most tax efficient way. We undertake a full tax review of our clients businesses and offer advice at every stage of the business lifecycle; we never assume in business.

We also offer the full range of compliance services to our clients busineses, including:

  • The preparation of Partnership and Limited Liability Partnership
    Self Assessment returns
  • The Preparation of Corporation Tax returns and computations
  • Advising of payment dates and liabilities
  • Representing your business for communication with
HM Revenue and Customs in respect of enquires.

Tax compliance for businesses has become increasing complex due to constantly changing legislation. We feel that our client's business resources are better spent on the primary function of the business. By allowing us to look after their tax affairs our clients have peace of mind that their compliance function is in safe hands and that returns are prepared and filed on time. We take care of all the detail, always keeping our clients informed and up to date.

trusts

The rules and legislation surrounding trusts has changed greatly in recent years. Many thought these changes were an attempt to lessen the appeal of trusts for tax and other planning purposes. However, for both practical and tax planning reasons, trusts still have their place when the correct structure is used. We have extensive knowledge of the rules surrounding the taxation of the various types of trust and can offer advice and support in respect of the most appropriate structure to use. We deal with all the taxation issues throughout the life of the trust, from it's creation, ongoing compliance, distributions through to the eventual winding up.

  • The preparation and submission of the Trust Self Assessment Returns
  • The preparation of periodic and exit charges for the trust
  • Advising the trustees of tax payments due and payment dates
  • Representing the trustees for communication with HM Revenue and Customs in respect of enquires.

Camberleigh-Hay have provided me with strong tax advice and administration services for my family, trusts and affairs, everything seems quite effortless. I have worked with them for many years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

offshore

Individuals

Losing your UK residence status can provide you with important tax breaks. As a non-UK resident you are exempt from income tax on your overseas income and potentially avoid UK capital gains tax. Actually determining whether you are a UK resident can be a headache but is vitally important to get right as it may have a big impact on your tax liability. We assist our clients in determining their status and keep a careful eye on the ongoing situation, making sure our clients remain compliant.

We are also always pleased to advise those considering coming to the UK to live, to make sure they structure their affairs to achieve their aims. As well as residence, we always consider a clients domicile as this can impact on their UK tax position, whether they are UK resident or not.

Non-UK Resident Trusts

As well as individuals, we advise Offshore trustees and UK beneficiaries in respect of UK tax issues. Although Offshore trusts are not part of the UK Self Assessment system, there is still UK compliance associated with non-UK resident trusts, we assist with these matters, such as:

  • Completion and submission of non-statutory form 50(FS) in respect of offshore trusts
  • Completion and submission of other forms

Many of the rules surrounding non-resident trusts have changed resulting in a great many pitfalls which trustees, beneficiaries and settlors should be aware of. We work closely with offshore trustees to ensure that UK taxation is considered at every stage of the process and no unexpected liabilities arise.

Non resident trusts are often particularly significant when considering UK resident/non-UK domiciled individuals. This is a specialist area, further complicated by the introduction of the Remittance Basis rules. We are able to guide your clients through this complex legislation and ensure that they do not fall victim of any of associated pitfalls.

I see the service as 'cradle to grave'. Everything is very much based on trust. This trust was Initially with Sheena but now with any member of the team. The service I receive is personalised from a range of services Camberleigh-Hay offer. The only service they could add would be to come and run a couple of my companies. In terms of value proposition – it would be very difficult to move now it's a relationship, even if someone offered twice the upside for half the money.

charities

Charitable trusts have an obvious purpose in the community and benefit for society. However, they may also play an important part in an individual's philanthropic goals and the structuring and administration in these circumstances need to be right. We assist our clients by:

  • Providing advice as to the tax implications, the best structure and completing the necessary paperwork
  • Ensuring that all returns are filed correctly and deadlines met
  • Completing documentation in order to obtain tax relief

Charitable trusts, often obtaining charitable status often non liable to pay tax in the UK, however there are still certain compliance obligations, both in respect of HM Revenue and Customs and the Charity Commission. We can help you ensure that you understand and meet these obligations and preserve the Charitable status. We can also assist with reclaims in respect of gift aid relief which will benefit the charity by increasing income.

Camberleigh-Hay provide something very, very special, a personal relationship. Camberleigh-Hay & Sheena are unique, there is a different dimension of trust in what Sheena provides. This is not the run of the mill service, it is value beyond money.
